No cuts
Anybody with interested in mountain biking and cross country racing can join AWMTB. Our no-cut policy means that every student who wants to ride and race can do just that, no matter their skill level. During the race season we ride between five and ten hours on Marin County trails. During these rides, you may find yourself in some of the most beautiful scenery around, making lifelong friends, and pushing the boundaries of what you thought you were capable of.
What to expect
Our training rides take place on singletrack trails and fire roads right in our own backyard. Working with our coaches, athletes focus on strength, technical skills, and endurance while also learning about the importance of good nutrition and proper race day preparation. Unfortunately, there's no substitute for good old fashioned hard work and physical effort. It's what gets us up the hills and onto the podium. See you out there.
Respect
As part of AWMTB, you are representing your team, your high school and your community. There's a reason we put the word "Howdy" on the back of our team kit. It's because we take our role as trail ambassadors seriously. We're friendly and respectful of others on the trail, no matter their mode of transportation. We're safe too, following open space and watershed rules, and slowing down when passing. Every athlete is expected to ride with all the necessary tools and nutrition for each ride. That means an extra tube, an inflation device, water or other hydration, and food.
Time commitment
Early in the season, starting at the beginning of November, we host one training ride each week on Sundays at
9 am, meeting at Deer Park in Fairfax. Training rides last from 90 minutes to 180 minutes depending on your group and fitness level. It's important to note that during training rides you can't simply turn off and go home. Coaches are responsible for your safety and must be aware of any changes to their group of riders. Once we have more light in the afternoon, we will add Tuesday and Thursday training rides leaving Deer Park at 4:15 pm. Races require Friday pre-rides and Saturday racing. For more information about each race, check out our race page.
